why why why?

ok im sure my termonology is wrong. i just finished cleaning and getting my carbs back together and hooked up throttle linkage. i pulled the throttle and it worked great. then i put them on the motor and the butterfly valve hits a rubber nipple on the motor......why?

if i pull the carbs slightly off the motor it almost dosnt hit, but sticks. whats the deal?

You have the carb boots in upside down. The nipple should be on the bottom.

ok, the guy who had it before me had them on like this. i never touched em. lemme go out there and look.

ok ic, its a clamp and 2 alen key bolts to swich them around.

all of them are facing up, should i change them all or does it matter?

1 more thing...i removed the 2 alen keys, whats the easiest way to remove the carb boots without hurting them? there really on there.

They should all face down. It will make your life easier when you synchronize those carbs. You may as well change them all while you have the carbs off.

sounds like a plan. now can you tell me how to break them free? the 2 alan key bolts are out, but they are really stuck on there. i dont want to damege them. there in good shape.

You do have the carbs out right?

If the boots are free from the carbs then they are just flat against the head, but I see some rtv poking out from behind the boot. You will have to carefully break the seal that the rtv has against the head. They shouldn't be glued to the head, but you have to get past that now.

the throttle is sticking slightly. is this due to the way the cable is run? or can i spay some lube down the line?

Try separating the cables from the linkage at the carbs. Work the throttle linkage with your hand. Make sure that the carbs move smoothly on their own. Varnish can build up on the slides and make them sticky. If the carbs are smooth, then move on to the cables. Try twisting the handgrip now. Is it sticky? If so, then suspect the cables. Remove them from the bottom of the right side control. There should be a hex nut type connection to the bottom of the control pod. Unscrew these nuts, and then you'll have to loosen the two phillips head screws in the bottom of the control pod. When you have the pod split, then the twist grip should slide out. At this point you should be able to unhook the button end of the cables from the twist grip. It could be either or both cables sticking, or the twist grip. You will know by the time you get them apart.

So if it's the carbs, clean them. If it's the cables, you'll probably need to replace them, but you might get away with lubing them. Or if its the twist grip, then you just need to clean the inside of the tube and the end of the handlebar.

COOL TEST!!! i just cleaned the carbs and they move great when not connected. its either the cablles or the twist grip. ill check it out tomm. whats a set of cables run?
