kz750 ltd H2 fueling question please
17 Aug 2010 16:47
hi riders
when i first bought my bike there was an inline fuel filter put inbetween the tank and the carbs.
in the manual it doesn't show an inline filter at all.
it does show the petcock and its own filter.
q) having an inline filter and a petcock filter fitted, would it effect the running of the bike please?
we found a right angled inline fuel filter and put this on to replace the car fuel fitted by the former owner.
is this beneficial or detrimental please.
many thanks
angie
ps the tank has been lined with the full frost motorcycle tank repair kit. the tank is internally line with plastic.

I think most people here will agree that an inline fuel filter is a must with these old bikes. One designed for a motorcycle wont interfere with the running of the bike. The one on the petcock is more of a screen than a filter
I like these which are scintered brass.

Haven't experienced it myself, but I have heard that some filters that use a paper or fiber filter media don't flow fast enough at full throttle. I use the one like JR shows above on my 750 and have never had a problem.

My understanding is that proper flow through some fuel filters relies on slight "push" from a fuel pump.
I use the free-flowing aftermarket in-line filter mentioned by JR, obtained from Z1 Enterprises.

Many of the filters designed for a car require a fuel pump to push the fuel through. Thats why I always go a for one designed for a motorcycle............although I have used one once designed for a riding lawnmower   with no issues I might add.

thank you for your messages about using the incorrect inline fuel filter.
please see the attached photos:-

2) this filter was sold to me by my bike shop. it's a toyota one and he said they're great.
3) is this inline fuel filter suitable please?
any advice greatly appreciated.

Sorry to say, no it is not. The Bowl is supposed to be on the bottom, and even if there is no arrow, the incoming should go to the "Bowl" and the out to the filtered/ separated side.

hi motor
many thanks for your message!
we thought it looked wrong!
as this is not a paper filter but internally plastic and bronze, would this type of inline filter be ok for the purpose.
this is a right handed one, would it be better to change to a straight sintered filter, like the one being sold by Z1.
* we can't buy that type over here in the uk. i've tried everywhere for some. i've even tried www.zpower.co.uk and they only do the paper ones. i should buy mine from Z1, trouble is it will take 10 days to get here. i will search the web, there has got to be a supplier in the uk.
many thanks
