I think you meant danhalen... my bike is up in Green Bay at my parents place (my dad has a nice shop). So I can only work on it a weekend at a time... 
A solid plate would work well I think. I'm in no hurry because I got my epoxy job, but if it's easy enough and cheap enough, I'd be in.

I reread a few of the old post's, and saw your idea about having the slides cast. that might be a cost effective idea, molds could be made relatively cheaply, but you would need a furnace to melt the aluminum down. Or a place willing to cast them if you supplied the mold.
