Please help!! Mikuni Problems
12 Jul 2010 18:37 - 12 Jul 2010 18:38
I have an 82 kz750 and the carbs it came with are not the stock ones. They appear to be in great shape except they are missing a piece off of one of them. The bad part is I dont know what they came off of so I cant buy parts for them. They say Mikuni on them and each one has a 35 stamped into it. I looked up pics of mikuni's on kz's and they look Identical to the ones if you google kz650 mikuni carbs, but all those say they are 24mm and Im guessing mine are 35mm which does not make sense, but they look identical. I know mine have the push/pull throttle set up. The piece I am missing is in the picture attached. It is the triangle shaped piece attached to the bottom of the second carb from the right. It just looks like a triangle cap, but I dont know if something goes under it or not. could anyone tell me what carbs I have and what the piece is that I am missing? Thank you very much!

The surest way to know is to measure the id on the intake side. I don't see anything missing in the pic, but I'm sure one the the more expert folks around here will chime in.

You have a set of carbs that have the accelerator pump. The triangle piece is a sensor of some type associated with the accelerator pump. There should be a diaphragm inside that area.

Look like VM 24's. If i remember correctly, there was nothing attached at the piece you are asking about, should just be a blanked off mount. According to the diagrams i found at Buykawasaki, there was an optional sensor mounted there. My '79 did not have the accelerator pump but a set of 81's i got had it, the sensor was blocked off on those. If you could show a better photo of the side or front of the carbs, it would help i.d. them better, but i am banking on VM 24's.

Ok, I measured the intake side of the carbs and they are just shy of 35mm. they look identical in every way to the ones in the pic, except mine are missing the triangle piece that is on the bottom right of the pic. I guess my overall question is where can I get that piece from? can I just make my own plate to cover it and seal it? Will that piece work from another set of mikuni's? thanks for all your help.

When determining size of carb by measuring throat size, it's the i.d. of throat on engine side of carb.

ohhhh. I did not know that. they are 24mm on the side that goes into the engine. I know they are not stock, but do you know what they came off of, 650,750 etc. I have a 750 running pods and have heard that I will have to re- jet the carbs up a couple steps so they don't run lean. The problem is I dont know what the carbs are from to buy parts for them.
