Got a nice set of 35's today!! :woohoo: :woohoo: Being a Mikuni man all my life, I don't know where to start with these Keihins.
Does anyone have base settings for them on a KZ1000? They are used so I'm not sure how they are set up right now.
They look to be pretty new - really nice shape. I bought them outside of eBay and not from a KZR member either, so I'm very relieved that they actually showed up today and that I wasn't scammed.

Re: Anyone Familiar With Keihin CR Special Carbs?
24 Aug 2010 05:17
In the Carb zipped folder I placed all the Keihin CR literature.... Includes parts break downs, jetting sizes, jetting info, trouble shooting, charts etc....
SUDCO sends them out way rich so....
kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_docman&...d&gid=461&Itemid=108
Phoenix AZ is roughly 1400 feet elevation...
I dropped 2 sizes on the mains and slow jets.
1 size to leaner YY9 needle, clip position 3.
She prefers to idle at ~ 1100-1200rpm...
Now due to AZ heat (freaking 115*F :pinch:) and in my top end build, I prefer to be a tad richer.... Plugs are spot on regarding ground band strap, base circle light carbon and insulator a gray versus tan color....
I have no loss/bogg in low rpm, no sputters or lags, no back firing on deceleration and no need to downshift to pass...
Just roll on the throttle and she takes off like a scorned women.... :woohoo:
These carbs are extremely easy to re-jet.... If I can do it anyone can....

Thanks for the link OMR! Never knew that info was there. That's a lot of good information all in one place.
What size CR's are you running?
Can you also tell me if these carbs can be vacuum synchronized? There is a fitting near the choke on each carb - is that an overflow or a place to synch?
Maybe mechanical synch only? Didn't see snychronizing mentioned in any of the literature.
Thanks

Re: Anyone Familiar With Keihin CR Special Carbs?

Oops, sorry about that... 29mm CR's...
Manifolds have the vacuum ports...
For sync, you adjust the throttle valves as in most carbs...
Once wamred up....
* Hook up the Morgan to all 4 manifold ports...
* Try and set idle as low as possible... Mine ~ 900-1000rpm
for the old girl gets pissy on me any lower... She prefers normal idle around 1100-1200rpm and she'll purr for me...
* Adjust throttle valves for obtaining 18-20cm on all 4 carbs +/-2cm...
* Blip the throttle and let her snap back, should rise and fall uniformly and in unison (+/-2-4cm)... Should fall to where it was adjusted to ~ 20cm...
I realize a few mntionings have been made about inusirng they are the same is the biggest point to make in carb sync but I have found insuring I ahve the optiomum vaccum (20cm) made a difference as well in performance of these CR's....
I know, I know, I'm anal that way plus I enjoy tweaking and learning... Plum and Larry always get pissed at me for I go way out of my way on research & tweaking for perfection or as close as I can get to it in my mind anywas.... Just the way my brain works I guess... :woohoo:
Side outlet is an overflow.... I leave mine open, no tube or plug/cap... No issues to date...
Seriously, once you dial these babies in, wholly smokes hang on when you twist her for you are going to notice a HUGE difference in performances.... My little 1015 pulls like a seasoned hooker....

You can use stock manifolds with those 29's - I had to get "J" style manifolds for the larger carbs and they don't have vacuum ports.
I've been trying to think of a way to synch them and just don't know for sure. Some have suggested drilling the manifolds and installing nipples but I'm afraid of leaks. I thought I might install nitrous plates and add a nipple instead of a nozzle? Not sure on that either. Oh well, back to the drawing board on the synching. Same problem as with the Mikuni 33 smoothbores (no ports). The Mikuni RS series have a vacuum port built right into the carbs - I was hoping the Keihins did too.

how often are you actually gonna pin the throttle where youll get full affect of a set of 34s versus the smaller carbs?

26 Aug 2011 15:22 - 26 Aug 2011 15:26Like to know the compression and the cam timing on this motor and what he did to the
HEAD! that's fast and I want to know HOW he did it.
But I'll never know .... wait I'll move out into the country and run an
1170 down the road all day making changes to the timing,
and see just where he found that power and speed.
Can tell by the pic this isn't a perfect world,
He couldn't seem to adjust the headlamp, now go figure.
