I checked the fuel levels this morning using the clear tube method. My manual says the level should be 4mm below the carb body. Three of the carbs were ok, but one was 6mm below the body. I corrected it. Is 2mm too low enough to cause problem? I didn't have time for a test ride.

Per FSM, '77KZ1000 fuel level is 2~4 mm under edge of carb body.

And FSM trouble shooting guide lists incorrect fuel level as possible cause for several performance issues.

Good Fortune! :)

Thanks Patton. I should mention that the carbs are 1980 VM28's. Is it better to be too low or high?

Put some miles on it and check your plugs.

Uncertain whether might help or hinder, but wondering if Dynojet kit (with jet needles) might reduce the mid-range surging.

Click > Dynojet Kit from Z1E
