what about the idling issue that the other guy had when he decel to a stop? if you bog the enging down with the clutch it will stay down at normal. sometimes. could that valve clearance be causing the backfiring too?

how can I correct the lean carb? would you think that cleaning the carbs is in order after it sat for a few years?
