KZ650 B - something wrong with the petcock?

Hi,

I'm trying to rebuild a '78 KZ650 and I need some help with the petcock. Simply don't know whether this thing is broken or whether this is supposed to be like that. Looks like there is an o-ring missing, but I still can't imagine that this is not leaking...

Thanks for your help!

I've not had a KZ650, but on the bikes I have done this to, I just roughed up the tube with some coarse sandpaper and pressed the tube back into the petcock. No runs, drips or errors.

I've had one come apart on my 650.
No o-ring there, just a pressed fit.
I used a bit of JB Weld on it to keep it together.
Others have used other adhesives that I can't recall.
Whatever you do, only use a bit and put it where it won't get squeezed into the petcock.

A brass nipple came out of my fuel tap, so I reinstalled it w some LiquidSolder from the auto parts store - it comes in a tube w no mixing. I simply put a tad on the outside of the nipple & pressed it back into the hole.

All the above work great but R4 turned me on to this. I tapped (1/8" pipe thread I believe) out petcock and installed a 1/4" elbow. Installed with yellow (fuel resistant) teflon tape and has worked great for past 3-4 years.

Thanks - that helps a lot!

This is the bike. A lot of work, but that's why I bought it. Think I'll need your help again in the next couple of months. :) Not sure what I'm going to do with it. I plan to put it on the road first and then modify it.

Looks good, I like it :cheer:

Petcock is the same way on my '78 B2A. It doesnt leak but it worried me how loose it is. I'm glad other people had the same issue. I'm new here, but welcome all the same.
