thanks dave....i got two more bowls to do and i will post up....i took alls advice and spent about 3 hours doing the tops...cut them with red then hit them with fine white...ideally you want two pads, but it can be done with one......money saved to be put into something else....

Are you speaking of the DOHC stamping?
ewwww, you'd have to go fairly deep to remove that totally thus a thin walled engine case cover...

I guess it could be done but oh why.... the DOHC stamping is old school cool in my book... but each there own... I'd try it out on a old case first and see what happens...

If you do, post the pre & post results... with images of course...;)

Keith, let me know how you like that HF buffer...

I had look into some of them way back and decided to just go the drill/pad route.... but I think your setup would provided better results...

BTW, the black stuff flies no matter what is used... so don't use that as a deterrent...

I bought a 6" pad for my regular bench grinder and it works great. I found I could polish covers without needing the extended shaft. Some parts would need the longer shaft though. I still use the hand drill to keep up with the polishing

dave,
buffer works good....the pads that come on them are shit..
i think i paid 40-50 bucks.....motor has decent sack and is smooth and fairly quiet..
i finished the bowls, but i m gonna have to figure out something for the nooks and crannies....the bowls have some spots no matter what you do, the wheel aint getting in there and the dremel stuff i have isnt cutting it either.....they look fine from 5 ft away, but close up not so good.....i m open to suggestions!
