cv34 not fueling on #2
06 Nov 2009 13:31 - 06 Nov 2009 14:02
i got it figured out as to why my bike runs like crap.
i have the cv34's that WG rebuilt. but the #2 doesnt seam to be giving out any fuel. its getting spark, the cylinder has good comp, but the plug looks like its just a little wet but thats it.
ok just took it for a ride. once you get past half throttle the thing takes of line a bat out of hell.
so it has to do with the idle jetting i am guessing

If the plug is wet than the cylinder is getting fuel.

its not realy wet just kinda moist. i know its getting fuel just not enough to cause ignition.
like i edited above. once you get to 1/2 throttle it takes off like a jet.

If any fuel was ever allowed into the freshly refurbished carbs without having first installed a new inline fuel filter, there's a chance that a perfectly clean pilot circuit was instantly recontaminated.
When starting the cold engine with choke applied, is there combustion in #2 cylinder?
Do these carbs have a separate enrichener circuit or a true butterfly style choke?
Good Luck!

I would think if you sent them to WG and you have a problem in one cylinder it is probably trash from the tank. Just a guess though.....I would pull the bowl from the problem carb and make sure all passeges and jets are clear especially the pilot circuit. Should be good to go. Just make sure your tank is rust free and you have good fuel filters installed. Good Luck

Simplest trick to clear the pilot circuit is to;
1) remove the tank
2) Remove the drain plug from the bad carb.
3) remove the pilot needle from the same carb.
4) fill a sirring with some gas
5)seal sirring to pilot screw opening with an o ring or small hose.
6) In 2cc increments squirt into the screw opening
7) Repeat about 3-4 times.
This should clear any obstruction, and flow it out the drain hole.
Reinstall pilot screw and open to the correct amount of turns.
This trick will work if the hole was clogged after the rebuild. It most likely not work if the rebuild was not done properly.

I had a problem like that and the pilot air passage was blocked to the pilot jet hole & to the idle air mixture screw hole. Thats the opening opposite of the removable air jet hole in the rear of the carbs

The pilot jet is the small one on the cylinder side of the carbs? Also it's screwed all the way down.what is the proper adjustment for it?

There is no adjustment possible on the pilot jet. It's under that white plastic plug and is screwed down like you said. Just make sure it is clean. The other thing to watch for and which will cause poor running or stuttering under about 3,000rpm is the transition holes. The CV34 has these and they are easy to miss when cleaning.
Look into that end of the carb which connects to the motor.
Open the throttle flap and look up. First in is a tiny hole which is from the air mix screw directly above. Easy to spot. Just beyond the throttle flap and further in from the air mix hole are the transition holes. 3 tiny holes. I use a very fine bent wire to poke them clean. The smallest piece of dirt will block them and while the bike will start ok with the pilots clean it will run like crap in the lower rpm range and only run proper at >3000rpm.
I spent an entire summer tearing my hair out before I found these transition holes. Could be the source of your problem ?
Just reading your post again and wondering if you are thinking the pilot jet screw is on the outside top of the carb closest to the engine. Thats the air mix screw and it should be turned out 2 turns from lightly seated. The pilot jet I was talking about is only accessible from inside the carb

I your refering to the pilot mixture adjustment screws, (located on the engine side, accessible from the outside) the default setting is 1 1/4 turns out from seated.
Check the others to see how many turns out they are, and they should all be close to the same. Put your #2 on a setting similar/average of the other carbs.
Out = more fuel mixture/In = less.
...ride on
Good luck!
