Float adjustment help needed
15 Aug 2009 17:49
I have a 82 KZ550 LTD, owned now for 5 mos. I really havent rode it much during that time until recently getting it inspected.During this time, one of the carbs would leak gas from the drain tube now and again but did not seem to affect performance. After a ride of no more then a few miles, the bike acted up, would not idle, and down on power.
seemed like it was running on a few cylinders. I decided to remove the carbs, disasembled and cleaned with carb cleaner and compressed air. When it comes to checking the float levels, I'm at a loss. I understand the process, But where in the world would the adjustment, or screws be located to adjust the floats? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Floats dont have adjustment screws they have Tangs, near where the floats touch the needle valve you have to bend slightly and test or check level. Re-bend until proper level trial an error so to speak.

this was the first thing i saw on adjusting float height, so here's the question. I have the manual and it shows how to check the fuel level in the bowl, but I didn't see any spec on the float height. So, has anyone by chance set thier carbs on a KZ650 and maybe wrote down their measurement to share with the rest of us to make the job a little easier?
THanks in advance

Zmoto, I have never adjusted the Fuel Service Level by measuring the float height.
What I have done is to measure and record the FSL using the Platic Tube Method before disassembling. That way I know which ones are OK and which ones need to be adjusted. If anyone of the FSL is OK or even close then I have a pretty good idea of how much to bend the tab on the float assembly.
Best of success.
