Maybe I missed it, but what Brand, Model and Input Resistance Coils are you now running? Did you change the High Voltage Ignition Wires too?
Best of success.

no those are all stock. I didn't have funds for new coils. Plug wires I may do soon. The coils don't seem to be giving me any fits, but time will tell. i will most likely replace them for good measure.

Good stuff... we all have a budget.
Note that your OEM Coil(s) is probably a 5 Ohm unit if it uses Points but the matching Dyna (Green) Coil will need to 3 Ohms for the Dyna S Electronic Ignition... Fortunately, 5 Ohm Coil with Dyna S should work good enough even if the spark is a bit weaker. Watch for the Black-Sooty Plugs symptom in the meantime.
Just a caution here... I have read that one should not put the key in the ON position, with the bike not running, and walk away. The Dyna S draws a lot of current in this state and will damage, melt, destroy and or burn the coil. Don't want to lose your bike, garage and or house.

In your original post my guess was a bad connection to one of the coils. Now that you've corrected the power issue and installed the Dyna, I think you'll find it's a great ride. Enjoy!

Just saw this thread.
I'm in OKC, up in the NW corner, near NW 122nd and County Line Rd. I also ride a 78 650 B2. If you have the stock exhaust and intake system then the 102.5 are the jets to use, with the clip in the 4th notch, and #15 pilots.
Give a holler and we'll go riding. Send me a PM.

this is perfect, I got it going today, pretty well. I am going to replace the pilots, just to make sure they are the right size, and clean, and I think I might need to adjust the needle. Ran well today. I am afraid of running lean so scared...
