1982 1000 ltd IDLE SPEED

Hi, I recently picked up an '82 LTD, but haven't had much time to ride it since it's not insured yet. I took it out the other day, and noticed that it idles at around 1300-1400. This seems too high. My plugs are carbon fouled as well, so I thought maybe my choke isn't opening all the way. What do you think?

Your bike does not have a choke. It has an enrichment circuit that richens the mixture when the bike is cold. Have you tried turning back the idle adjustment knob?

Is this circuit supposed to do this by itself? I have a choke-like knob on the left side I have to pull out when it is cold. I am conused now!

I hae not tried adjusting the idle-adjustment knob, but I have read about idle-adjusting screws on the side of the carbs, is this what you are refering to? would I just adjust each screw the same amount, and then start up the bike to see if it made a difference?

Thanks

There is a knob centerd under the carbs for adjusting the idle. I think that is what KZCSI is talking about.

Is there one knob, or one for each carb? Also, where would I find this knob(s)?

Thanks guys.

One knob for all 4, its under the rack about in the middle. If you look under the carbs you will see it.

Hi 9am,

Yes that knob actuates the enrichment circuit. No it is not self regulating.

Have you found the idle knob?

THanks for all the help, although this was a newb question you all gave me no flak! I was poking around, but couldn't see it from the left side, but I looked from the right side, and there is was. I adjusted my idle to just over a grand when warm - much smoother! having this one knob is really convenient!
