throttle questions
31 May 2009 10:45
i have a 77 kz650b with a bit of a throttle issue. it doesnt recoil like it should, so i have to push the throttle closed by twisting it back.
questions:
one cable appears to be for opening, one for closing
right?
there seem to be tensioners on both, they are loose.
there is a spring on the rocker mechanism on the carbs where the cables attach. is this the only thing that automatically closes the throttle?
maybe the spring needs to be replaced? or some lube shot into the cable housings?
thanks!

do the slides shut with cables disconnected? probably needs new cables, take throttle apart while cables are off and clean it up also
Still recovering, some days are better than others.

thanks everyone! i am going to take the cables off and lube them in the housings first, and make sure the throttle closes with no cable attached. if that doesnt fix it, where is the best place to get cables?
thanks,
david

I had a similar problem on my '77 KZ650-B1.
I replaced the cable (lubrication may work well for you), greased the twist grip throttle assembly and greased the carburetor rail. The throttle effort and return became so smooth and light that I was able to replace the return spring on the carburetor assembly with one that has about 1/3 of the tension... this made it much more comfortable for and much easier on my vintage wrist for those longer trips.
Hope you can get away with just lubricating. Best of success.
