Fuel Air Mixture

I think this goes in this forum, my 83 KZ 550A recently died on me and I had to push it about a quatermile in GA heat...whew...Anywho..I thought it was the spark plugs, so I chagned them, now when I start her up she will idle not very long and I hear a noise in one of the right side carbs, but as soon as you give it gas it just dies out, so i'm thinking a fuel air mixture, but have no idea where to start!!!!

you have to ask your self how could the fuel air mixture change by itself not gonna happen it sounds like to me it's either a plugged fuel supply or something electrical don't change the settings on your carbs unless the carb fairy's got to it sometime when you wern't looking

Sounds like no fuel to mix. Have you pulled the fuel line from the petcock to see if fuel is getting to the carbs. Maybe a clogged fuel filter?

pull off your fuel line and check the fuel flow coming out of the petcock.

And is there plenty of gas in the tank? And not needing to go on "reserve" (if the petcock is fully functional). Or maybe the petcock is clogged. Or the petcock screen up inside the tank is clogged.

Good Luck! :)

Could loosen or remove carb float bowl drain screw and see whether fuel flows freely out the drain. This will at least show whether or not fuel is getting into the floatbowl.

Good Luck! :)

I've rebuilt the carbs, changed the float bowls, and more of the jets, oil change, fuel geting to all carbs, new spark plugs and spark plug wire caps...There was one jet in each carb that we cuoldn't change because our rebuild kit didn't come with it....

yes but do you have any fuel coming out of the petcock check that first. take the line off and turn on the valve.

Try leaving the gas cap open. If it solves the symptom, it is a fuel tank venting issue (it's not venting enough). Consider changing the fuel tank cap rubber gasket. Fairly inexpensive part from Z1 Ent.

Best of success. :)
