1980 KZ1000 LTD / VM or BS34's

I just picked up another KZ1000 today and have been sitting here thinking about the carb setup. It currently came with a set of VM 28/29(?) I believe, but I had a set of BS34's fromy my XS1100 which is also in good condition. I know they won't line up directly, but is it possible to put new carb boots on to take em? Also, how are the VM carbs (never owned those, always and CV). They just look like a PITA.:laugh:

The below picture is what threw me too (stolen from ebay), thereis another area on the VM carbs which looks like I am missing and so is this guy selling these carbs. The little triangle piece, does anyone know what this area is?
