any decent professional motorcycle mechanic in your area should be able to rebuild your carb quite easily. check out which shops are doing a few rebuilds or are into performance bikes or look at some of the smaller one or two man operations that have bussiness for a few years. it is nothing that a half decent mechanic can't handle.

Hey wait a minute, I know, why not do them your self! what a thought....
Just think, you'll learn something new about your ride and will be able to state 100% that you re-built them yourself and think about the joy from that alone will come from the experience...
Can and will it be frustrating, sure but what learning experience isn't... Think back about the first girl friend, right like that didn't screw with your mind.....
If running stock carbs, the service manuals break it down fairly well... There's a whole slew of info on forums and then there's these old farts around here as well that will chime in and give you some guidance then there's parts from our very own Jeff @ Z1....
All in all, you can do this....
Then again, as TB stated, do your research and you'll find what your requiring....

Many carbs are rebuilt needlessly in my opinion. In over 300,000 miles I've never needed a rebuild yet. Replace a few parts here and there as they go bad, clean them ect, and no need to go any deeper most the time.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

ron is absolutly right, with fuel quaility being like is you can run in to problems from time to time with float valves and sometimes over time gaskets and o-rings will deteriate as far as jets and the hard parts go it would be an extraordinary situation for them to wear out i have seen worn carb parts but that is the exception not the rule the biggest thing you cando for your carbs is use a very good quality fuel filter and drain the gas each winter out of the bowls and keep the fuel tank topped up to prevent corrosion. rust and dirt in the fuel will absolutly destroy float valve assemblies. i'll get off my soap box now . but that being said if you don't feel comfortable doing them your self please don't hesitate taking them to a competent mechanic near you.

Since I don't much about carbs, here goes. I have an 82 KZ750R1 which I had a bunch of work done 3 years ago. Carbs were supposed to have rebult. Last summer after sitting about 4 months, I tried starting it and fuel poured out ogf the carbs. It wasn't a tank leak. Could there be a clog or something causing this? My wife wants me to get rid of the bike if it's not running.

jim was the bike's carbs emptied of gas when it was parked if not you will at the very least have to clean them properly. at worst you will have to put float valves fresh gaskets in it. oh and by the way you will find that anything she doesn't understand has to go that is female law so get it going and grow a set.

Anyone know where I can get 1 carb? I'd like to learn how to clean/rebuild mine, but don't want the bike to be out of commission while I learn.

go to a wreaking yard and get one from any old single it shouldn't cost much. it will be hard to tell if you actually did it right with outhaving a bike to try it out on so if i were you try it on the set you already have and trust me it doesn't take long as long as it is only the insides your cleaning the important part is the inside after all
