Anyone knows where I can buy a replacement for my 77 kz650? It's not shutting off the fuel completely.

If ya don't care about original and want the best get a Pingle. Few more bucks but by far the best.

If it's a Mikuni petcock then you have a good shot at getting a repair kit for it c/w diaphragm and all the rubber bits.
If it's a Taiyo Gikken petcock then you've got problems. There are very few kits available for the TG petcocks.
If there IS a kit available for your particular petcock then they usually retail in the US$20-$30 range depending on who is selling it.
Of course there may be a salvage yard in your area with a suitable replacement.....

Thanks folks. I have a '77 kz650B model. I don't know the kind of petcock I have. Is it labeled? I'll have to look closer tomorrow. I do remember when I took it apart that it has like a tapered cork-like valve. Maybe you folks are familiar with it. I checked out the Pingel site and looks like that's the way to go. Looks like I need to get some sort of adapter as well. Wow, looking forward to not having to clean that fuel spot under the bike every time! Thanks!

EC2, remember... order one of Z1 Ent.'s inline fuel filters as well. Don't rely on the filter built into the OEM Petcock. Don't ask.

Yes, I'd already installed an in-line filter prior. The mesh has a small hole in it. Thanks.

Re: Fuel Tank Petcock

hi all,
thought i'd ask this here rather than start another thread...
i have an '81 kz750-4 ltd, with a petcock that works but a tank that's pretty rusty. i've managed to find a gem of a replacement tank at the local wreckers, but one of the bolt holes for the petcock has had the bolt snapped off in it and partially drilled out. what is my best course of action if i get this tank? try and re-tap the thread in the bolt hole and fit the original petcock? from looking at most of the pingel ones (and other brands) i've seen, they don't seem to utilise these bolt holes anyway...or do they - is that what the adaptor plate is for?
all advice most appreciated guys, cheers.

Yep, most of those aftermarket replacement petcocks use an adapter plate. The petcock itself screws into the plate and then the plate bolts to the tank with the stock bolts. All you need to know is your stock bolt size (usually 6mm) and the centre-to-centre distance between the bolt holes (usually something like 32mm, 35mm, etc).....
but to use the adapter plates you have to have TWO good bolt holes in the tank. So it looks like you'll have to fix that busted/stuck bolt either way....old petcock or replacement petcock.
