Heres a dumb question, is there suppose to be 2 petcocks on my 1978 KZ650SR? because I have 2 identical openings on the bottom of my tank but there is only one petcock, thanks.

You only have one petcock. Of course each petcock has 3 holes, 2 for the mounting bolts, one large oval one between them. It would be really difficult to add a second petcock if you wanted too. I need pictures.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Sorry no pictures, but my tank has a total of six holes on the bottom. The extra 3 holes look like there was a petcock there before, because the holes are the exact same as the wholes for the petcock that is there

Fiberglass tank??

dual petcocks

P.S. Guessing perhaps some competition riders may fit dual petcocks to avoid fuel starvation in event one of them clogs for whatever reason. So what about triple petcocks and be really sure. :woohoo:

I'm new two the motorcycle world but I'm trying to learn. If I understand you correctly you have two sets of hole on the bottom of the tank one on the right and one on the left. If thats correct I would say ones for the pet cock and one is for your fuel sensor. I hope that helps.

NEWBIE has it correct. One is for the petcock and the other set of holes are for the fuel sensor. You have or had a fuel gauge/light on that puppy.

Not sure that the NEWBIE fella is right. The fuel sensor pickup is usually more in the middle of the tank and on the bottom and the holes will be much farther apart. The hole will be round and about 3" as memory serves because there will be a float that has to go in the tank. There would be a small flange welded to the bottom of the tank because there is normally a rubber cover that goes over the place where the fuel sensor pickup goes and some soldered lugs for wires. The rubber piece will also have a drain hose fitting for reasons that are not readily obvious to me.

newbie's right the one on the left is for the petcock and the one on the right is for the fuel sensor. both holes are oval in shape. i think george is confusing the (sr) with the (j model).your bike should have a light that says fuel on your tach.

I just know by my bike that I'm learning on. That the petcock or fuel tap is on the left side and the fuel sensor is on the right side. Just check a website that has OEM parts the diagram will show you. The holes look alike.
