Then it's probably not stainless steel
Speaking of stainless steel, I am the mechanic for a excavating and demolition company, so all kinds of strange stuff that is found on job sites ends up at our yard.
About three months ago I was looking for an iron bar to use to drive out a 4" diameter pivot pin on a dozer, and I found a 4' piece of 1 1/4" hex stock laying in the weeds. According to others this thing had been laying there for over a year. and it had no rust on it, it was just kinda stained brown.
This stuff it hard!! I have been beating on it for three months now, using it as a drift to get the large pivot pins out of various earthmoving machinery, with a sledgehammer, and have still not mushroomed it! I don't know what this stuff is, but it sure is tough.
I guess I went aways off topic with this post
