Zephyr 750 motor into a Z500 frame?

After trying to find ways to tart up my Z500 motor, I have found a Zephyr 750 motor fairly cheap.

Anyone done this swap, or know someone who has?

I will go to the wreckers and measure, buy knowing it had been done before would help.

Thanks, Steve

giday Steve, I'm up in sydaney and have put a zr750 (zephyr) engine in a z650 chassie. I thing if some one has put a z650, or z750 engine into the z500 chassie then the zr could be done

Steve, I think that the reason few people have responded is that not many KZR members have owned Z500's (not to mention seen one). The bike was never released in North America (where most of the members are). The Z500 is however, similar to the KZ550 and I am unaware of anyone shoe-horning a larger displacement motor into a 550 frame (this is not to say it hasn't been done). Swaps between 650 and 750 bikes are common...and there have even been a few 900/1000 motors wedged into 650/750 frames.

Thanks for the response. The 550 was released here after the 500, and was basically the same. After measuring the Zephyr motor, it would not fit in. I'll look for a Z750 motor, which is older technonogy, but a direct swap.

do you mean wont fit the motor mounts or wont actually fit into the frame? if it doesnt line up with the mounts, but it can be crammed into the frame, you could just make some custom motor mounts and weld them on (thats how the guys that do the 1000/1100 motor in the 650/750 frames do it)

The air cooled Zephyr 750 is close enough to the earlier air cooled 750's that most if not all parts interchange, so if the earlier 750 will fit then the Zephyr 750 should fit as well.
That's assuming the Zephyr 750 where you are is the same one we have in the US.

The earlier 750 is the same size as the 650, for the most part, but it's definitely not a direct swap into a z500/550 frame. I'd still look for a gpz550 motor. That will be a direct swap into the z500 frame.
