Yes, maybe from the old site? The model "Andrea" did a calendar shoot for me in 03 for 04. I think that "period" class system was neat too. Much different style than todays index classes. Modprod...It was the z1 you are on doing a burnout...there were even pictures with a model or your daughter or wife...whichever. There must have been about a couple dozen pictures in all. I have them in my files somewhere.

I agree. Don't think it will ever see that type of racing again. I remember one year at Edgewater Park running B/Modified bike, it took us almost 6 hours to get through tech. It's a lot easier to get bikes through tech now. I liked those years when every bike was a little different because everybody basically did their own work and not just throw cash at it like it seems happens now. Bikes are faster now...stock off the showroom floor bikes can outrun all but the fastest bikes from that era, but it was more fun for me to see a myriad of different bikes with as many different ways of getting to the same point. Each his own, I guess, but that is one reason my favorite class at NHRA races is the Competition Eliminator cars.
1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110

modprod: Your 31 mm CRs got me to open some old Yoshimura catalogs from the late 1970s where I found a couple of dyno charts showing Keihin CR 31s vs. Mikuni 29 Smoothbores:
Keihin CR31s
Mikuni VM29s

That's very interesting! A glimpse of the past. That "little" 1000 motor ran pretty good for more than 25+ years ago. Thanks Bob

Since it lists displacement at 998cc for the Yoshimura engines, does that mean that they are J model motors? Or are they reduced bore 1015cc motors?

Pops Yoshimura sold 987 cc and 998 cc piston kits for the '73-'75 Z1-900 and the 1976 KZ900/LTD 903cc motors of that era.
The '77-'80 KZ1000s had 1015 cc motors. Pops sold a dandy 1015 cc two-ring, slipper-piston racing kit back then that a number of roadracers of the day used, including Pierre Des Roche's Superbike Championship-winning 1978 Vetter KZ1000.

Impressive ET out of that smallish engine size. Great job!!! The entire bike gets a big thumbs up. You've done one heck of a job keeping the bike that nice over the years.
I'm a big fan of Keihin CR carbs. It's so rare to see them on a KZ these days. They caught my eye first thing in that pic.
larrycavan wrote:Thanks for noticing Larry. Only the "real old school" guys remember them! I bought them new in the winter of 1980.The "Ticklers" are still good too. The bike I bought new in 1974. At one point (about 85 or 86?) I tried the Mic 33 smoothbores. They wouldn't touch the 31s with my old combination so the 31s still live on the bike today. The whole bike is a vintage "modified" (except the rear tire) of that period and still runs like it did 20+ years ago. I let a local guy ride it 2 years ago and it went a 9.43 and a 5.89 with a half dozen tries. He had trouble leaving with a standard clutch and no twostep. Go figure?modprod wrote:Head bead blasted & cylinders sand blasted.
Where in the world did you get your hands on those old CRs? That's so cool!
