Performance Specs for 1979 MK-II
26 Oct 2006 10:07
Does anyone know or could direct me to where the original performance specs(1/4 mile time, top speed, etc) for a 1979 KZ1000 MK-II (A3A) would be.
Thanks!

Cycle World test back in 1979 ran around a 12.20 I believe. Normally they were prepared well and ran better than your run of the mill dealer sold model.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Not only prep but a pro rider as well... remember that fella named Peewee that used to do ALL the testing for all the mags a few years back? He was good for well over a half second over any normal mortal at the 1/4.

PeeWee weighed about a hundred pounds.
Anyone remember Bo O'Brochta who used to race top fuelies for Global Van Lines? He had a KZ1000 motor with the head reversed, zoomie headers out the back under the seat and the blower wrapped in a shrapnel blanket under his chest. Awesome to see!

Thanks all! The bike runs great but has 36K+ miles on it. I hear what sounds like "lifter tap" or knocking on the bottom end. I don't think it's critical but should I be thinking about an engine rebuild soon?
Also, there are times when it appears I intermittantly loose a cylinder. That usually happens after leaning on the throttle a bit. I just replaced the old Kerker with a brand new V & H 4-1 pipe, rejetted the carbs, removed the air box and installed filter pods. Any ideas? Thanks!!
