'76 Kz900 Crankshaft Bolts

I'm trying to put together my '76 900 and I've ran into a crank bolt problem. The guy before me ran to the local hardware store bought some metric bolts and threw them in it. The Crank has 12 bolts holding it in, 8 go through both the lower and upper cases and 4 go through a "Crank Cap" into the upper case. I was able to locate the correct bolts for the 8 that go thru both cases. Unfortunately, I can't find the 4 bolts that go thru the cap and into the upper case. My smart parts doesn't even list the cap in any diagrams! If youy guys could help me out with some part numbers or correct lengths for those 4 bolts I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks

Afraid I cant help with your bolt question - I'm sure someone else will be along who can - but I'd sure like to see a bigger pic of that bike of yours.

The four bolts that hold the crank cap are the same length as the other eight crank bolts. These are 8mm x 1.25 pitch. I can get the length if you need it.

Unfortunately My 8 other bolts are not all the same legnth; 2 are 81mm, 2 are 95mm, and 2 are 72mm! so if you could get me the length I would be grateful. JR I'm not to familiar with the site but I'll try to post some bigger pics of then and pics of what it looks like now- ALOT OF PIECES!

wireman, The pic of the stud was not what the fella was asking about... in any case, I didn't have any cam cap bolts laying around... thought I did. My memory told nme that all the 8mm bolts were the same length but I was wrong about that. When I pull the case bolts, including the cam cap bolts, I put them on a cardboad card with holes in it to keep locations... on some of them I write the actual bolt size and length but in this case, I didn't... (I checked). Sorry.

Update - Believe I found some crank cap bolts... 8mm x 72mm and 1.25 pitch - Like I said, I THINK they were from a crank cap.

I would also go with the APE kit. I only want to build my bottom end once.

I've already got the APE HD stud kit and crank cap brace. I'm talking about the bolt that hold the crankshaft in. not the studs that hold the cylinders and head on. But, thanks to you guys I was able to locate my last 4 bolts and they are 8x72x1.25 Thanks everyone.
