Daveo:  Do you have a picture or link to this tool you are speaking about?  I ended up buying some drive chain riveters that are really heavy duty are were expensive, but they won't work on small chain like a cam chain.  I haven't had the opportunity to use either of these tools on my bike as the clip style master link chain I am using hasn't given me any problems yet.  I did "practice" using them with some old drive chain and new master links and they worked quite well.  The situation was a bit worse for me in that I am using the 630 drive chain and a lot of chain riveters don't accept that size chain.  Both of the tools I have were from Europe and I had to get them through some really helpful people on this forum.

Thanks Rick

This company cancelled my purchase, because they DO NOT deliver to the USA:

That quality tool has these awesome instructions:

They advertise that they ship to Canada.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

That's weird!  Canadian market is about 10% of the US market.

Motion Pro makes a good chain breaker/splicer.

I broke a cam chain in 78. Hollywood Kawasaki had a aftermarket one with oval links and was cheaper than OEM but the pins were bronze. I split one of the links with a large screwdriver ran it through and reriveted it after I used a small socket to squeeze the plate back on. It lasted until the wreck in 86. Z1E has a heavy duty chain with master link and a tool to do the job with. I'll be doing it soon. I wonder if it would work with a Hy Vo chain like you have.

The Z1E chain kits are designed for hollow nose master links. The silent cam chains have solid pin links.

My cam chain may not need replacement technically, considering it's had an easy life while in my care. According to the KZ1100 FSM, the 20 link length needs to fall between 127.1 and 128.9 millimeters. The link currently measures right about 28.25mm, with over 90K miles wear and stretch on it.

I am confident the master link approach will produce a satisfactory result so long as I have a JMP MK-1588 tool in-hand to use. If not, this project will likely eventually be done properly as suggested.

I don't want to get political here but WTF has anything got to do with socialism ?   Its a European company, a lot of them don't ship to Australia either, I've found this a few times with German companies and sellers on Ebay. I got a mate in the UK to buy me parts from Germany and send them to me when needed. I was told at one stage it had to do with the shipping companies, .. Maybe you should have a whinge at the US postal services, they've made it virtually impossible to buy from there without raping your wallet, I was recently quoted over 350 dollars to send an alternator cover to Australia,  and 65 dollars to send a tank vent, an under 20 dollar part, it was about 50mm long  !!!!  I've been buying parts from the US for over 20 years, I now have to use a friend in Virginia to buy and on send from the US,  and its still stupid expensive, I look elsewhere now unfortunately as shipping is reasonable everywhere else. The whole world is going to sh1t ...

I'm with you there...the past year has been one exceptional bitch!

If I'm successful pursuing this project, I'll post a new subject at that time.

For now, thank you all for the generous input!
