Valve Adjusting an 82 J-Model 1000

HELP!!!

I've got the Motion Pro tool and successfully used it on my 80 LTD 1000. On my 82, the tool does not seem to fit on the cam. I'm having trouble with the #1 (left as you sit on bike) exhaust valve. There doesn't seem to a way to get the tool to fit in there without hitting the shim. It's frustrating ....

thanks in advance.

I have not used the motion pro tool. It looks like the tool I made for the Honda DOHC 750.

The camshaft has a fair bit of end float. If it's interference with the camshaft that's shifting the tool over the shim, there is a good chance that you can apply a little pressure to the camshaft as you turn the engine over, and gain some clearance.

A remote possibility is that the buckets are too close together. This can happen when a damaged head is reworked and a suzuki bucket is installed.

Is yout tool OK on the other buckets? Tool could be defective.

I'll give that a try tonight... the tool is just a piece of sheet metal but there does not seem to be enough room on the one end. If I can move the cam over a little bit that would probably cover it...

thx
