I recently ended up having to take apart an engine and investigate a couple of things. I found that my intake valves were bent. I was hoping to get away with just cleaning the valves and heads and putting them back on, but I don't think I can get away with lapping a set of new valves in the head. At any rate I wanted to say what the average price has been to get the new valves done bny a machine shop and new guides put in if I have all the parts. The guides are still good, but some people hear have suggested that I replace them while I have the heads off anyway. I would appreciate any advice you guys could give me. Right now I am waiting on Jeff to quote me a price on 4 new intake valves. I live in Amarillo Tx, and haven't had much luck in getting a hold of many machine shops.

I don't know what a machine shop will charge, but considering the price of valves, guides, and labor, I'd bet you can get another head cheaper and lap the valves in yourself.

If I'm reading that list correctly, it is $284 for the labor, and the parts will cost you ~$100, and then the cost of shipping.

I'd be scanning eBay for another head off a low mileage motor :woohoo:

But if you have the $$$ to spare, at least you would know the head was right :)

ask around and learn who the locals use.
here(Atlanta) the shop I like charges $14/valve for cutting valve and seat and the usual $40/hole for bore and hone. This was abotu 3-4 months ago.

And there are those who feel it is worth it.

Won't get any argument from me about it being worth it for those that can afford it, but for those like me that can't afford it, we just have to do the best we can :)
