Exhaust mount KZ650 1978 SR

My bike came with a 4 into 1, but I can't seem to find anywhere to mount the exhaust tab to. Does it just strap to the lower swing arm? The join to the header also has no clamp, so I found a t clamp that works. I'm guessing I've lost whatever was there. It's the last piece before she is ready to ride.

Don't think mounting to the swing arm would be a good idea. I've heard they tend to swing as the name suggests.
You need to mount to a non moving part of the frame. Normally the rear footrest bracket.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!

yup thats a fair amount of smart arse for a dumb question. I was looking at other bikes and trying to figure out how it wasnt moving. duh..... ok i need to make a bracket to go from the back of the passenger peg to the mounting tab. The tab is in a stupid place for this bike. not sure how that came to be....

All the KZ 750/650's , GPZ750 pipes are interchangeable, so the pipe probably suits a different bike.    I just did this with a 1982 GPZ750 pipe fitted to a KZ650, I just cut the tab off and rewelded it back where the rear foot peg mount is... If that's a Mac pipe,it looks exactly like the one I modified, except mine was black, Tab was in the same position as yours is.

Your muffler looks similar to the one on my KZ1000, made by MAC.  Mine is mounted with a sheet metal bar/bracket that reaches from the passenger peg mount to the tab on the muffler.
The MAC kits came with a number of different brackets like this for different models.
I have made similar brackets from steel stock purchased from Home Depot.  Cut to length with hack saw, add some bends in a vise, and drill both ends.  If you're feeling fancy, round the ends with a file or a bench grinder.  Hit it with some black spray paint and you're done.

Funny you say that because that us exactly what I'm currently trying. That picture helps. It's hard to figure what height it wants to be at or how tightly inserted. I tapped it in with a mallet and block but then I was thinking I'm risking messing up the header. I'm also going to put some muffler cement and a clamp around the join as it's..... sloppy ish

Thanks as always you guys are all awesome. the header wrap I put on meticulously that looks so good has to get cut off. I spilled oil on it by firing the bike up and forgetting to torque the valve cover. I was really keen to hear it after more than 10 years of sitting. It barfed oil all over the wrap and I just watching a video of oilly header wrap catching fire.....

All the 650 models came with muffler mount brackets, they are usually stamped steel and painted black. They mount to the frame on the inside of the rear passenger peg mount then the mufflers bolt to it.

These get tossed with the OEM exhausts if you put a header on. They usually have a bumper on the one side to limit the center stand.

It's so timely. I found a good mount and got the exhaust all tightened up and then noticed the center stand was riding on the chain, well vice versa i guess. Dug out a spare parts bin plate that you mentioned. With the aftermarket exhaust I'll have to chop the bracket and use in conjunction with the bar I bent up to hang the exhaust but you nailed it sir, cheers
