1/4 turn output shaft at sprocket
19 Aug 2020 13:54
While preparing to replace the sprocket gaurd I noticed about a 1/4 turn back n forth on the output shaft at the sprocket. . I could feel this while riding but attributed it to the chain.
Fix? The repair manual is vague. Thanks
Tried to load a video but won't accept mp4

There will be a little play at the countershaft. What you're feeling while riding might be the chsh rubbers are worn out.

If the transmission is in gear and the sprocket will move 1/4 turn, there is a problem. If the 750-4 clutch has rubber dampers and they have disintegrated, the output shaft might have some serious slop.

1/4" or 1/4 turn? That's a lot. A video would help. I suspect it would be 1/4". Is there a lot of noise and can you pull the shaft in and out. With the sprocket tightened there should be none.

In the pictures he posted, it looks like 1/4 turn. That would really worry me.

The 900 clutch has damper springs. Even if all of them were completely missing, there would not be that much slop. I bet there is something broken in the transmission. It might be time to drop the oil pan and look for chunks.
