Shift Drum Positioning Bolt
12 Nov 2019 11:51
Does anyone know the tightening torque for the shift drum positioning bolt on a KZ750H (4)? I'm referring to the M14 bolt that houses the spring and piston that holds the shift drum in the selected gear, not the bolt with the lock washer that holds the shift drum in the housing.
Going by the thread size torque would be about 74+ Nm. That seems quite excessive especially as the spring is always loading the threads.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Just didn't want it backing off into the oil pan.
For the record, the fact that the bolt is hollow shouldn't make any difference unless the walls are paper thin. The inward forces aren't any larger than the clamping load and the threads are a lot thinner than the walls so they will go first.
