Kz440B engine repair or swap

Hi guys- so the crank balancer chain came apart on the bike a little while back. The engine isn't completely schmucked but it's going to need to be completely gone through at this point. There's an LTD on craigs currently listed with only 3700~ miles on it for 1500. I don't think the guy as a title so he will probably come down a bit. After looking for a few weeks for a new crank- I don't think that's happening- is the LTD motor a direct swap or even a doable job? The ltd is very clean- but my bike was definitely nicer when it ran- and I just put a fresh candy orange paint job on it. Matter of fact I had just gotten the paint done and only ridden the bike maybe 2x before the bottom end puked.

At any rate- what do you guys think- should I try and snag the LTD and do the swap? Keep hunting for a New crank, or just dump the bike and start over because it's a 440?
PS I only weigh 125-130 lb and I'm not a speed freak so the smaller size doesn't bother me- my last bike was an 03 superglide with a 1450cc and the whole reason I had gotten the KZ was because I didn't want to have to deal with humping the heavy weight all the time.

The motor swap will be a lot less technical work than a rebuild. 1500 seems like top dollar for a 440. You should be able to find one cheaper.... Like $400 with no title and bad carbs.

I think any kz400 twin or 440 motor should bolt in, but there variations on the electrics and carbs and kickstarters.

Yea- that price is high but the bike supposedly only has 3709 miles and it's actually a really clean bike- I just don't like the ltd format at all. Both bikes are 1980, and the market here is generally crap and I don't know when another one reasonable or not will show up.

I would compare stuff at Partzilla, but I bet they're a direct swap. I did a quick check and the 440-B1 & 440-A1 Ltd have the same charging system & same points ignition system, and a few other things I checked are the same as well.

The only difference might be the clutch cover.
Which is not a problem.
