KZ400 H1 Kickstart

Hey hey, I had a look around and couldn't find anything so here goes..
I have a 79 KZ400 H1 that I'm restoring, had it running, kinda but then snapped the cam chain as id tightened the tensioner way to much
Idiotic i know!! Anyway, im gonna pull the engine and replace the chain, though it would be worth putting in a kickstart mechanism while i'm at it as mine didn't come with one.
Finally, my question: Can i use the mechanism form older models as i can't find any for the new engine. I saw something about a change i gearing so no because they changed from 23 to 20 teeth? Are there any fixes, adaptations or spectacular solutions???

Your bike should have a kick start from new. What is the engine number? [ It is located by the oil fill cap ]
What is the engine displacement? [ It is cast into the front of the barrels ]

Closest I could come up with is a 1980 B3 or G2 model KZ400.
