Ring break in period
15 Mar 2019 14:18
'78 KZ750 Twin. Put new rings in it and after firing it up a few times (but no road miles yet) the plugs are a little oily. Cleaning reveals a nice tan insulator under the oil. I am assuming I need to get some miles in before the rings get properly seated. Will this go away quickly or do I need to have some spare plugs with me? Thanks

Spark plugs, (new rings for the break in), need a specific head for the self cleaning process = riding conditions.
Many cold starts, (fat air/fuel mixture) can fool your spark plugs and Piston rings very quick.
A fat air/fuel mixture can wash away the lubrication oil layer on the cylinder wall, scoring marks.

When installing a freshly honed cylinder block, how much oil should there be on the cylinder walls?

I use just enough oil to avoid rusting (very light coat).

Have I understood it correct, if you use to much the ring will not brake in?
After reborring and honing, I needed to remove cuttings with oil and a rag, so the wall was coated as Nessism advise.
