I destroyed my LTD engine so I have been patiently scouring CL to find a KZ750 that could become a donor for me. So far, I haven't found the right donor at the right price, but I found a nice looking KZ750N (Spectre) that runs and rides.

Can I take the Spectre engine and put it in my LTD frame? My LTD was mostly finished before the engine went on me (long story... ) so it'd be sweet if I could swap 'em! If not, I'll probably still get the Spectre, because duh!

Until you get a definitive answer, I would compare crankcase sets & engines on EB. I did a quick check & they look pretty much the same to me. The 750-F1 Ltd Shaft is probably the same as the 750N Spectre... in case there are better pics of an F1 engine.

On Partzilla, the H3 LTD crankcase (my bike) has a different part number - 14001-5901 - than the N1 Spectre - 14001-5118.

I'd probably have to take that as a no go.

EDIT: I just looked up the crankcase part number for the GPz750 because they supposedly have the same engine, but the crankcase was a different part number than the Spectre...

The Spectre is shaft drive and the rear engine mount has a rubber damper built in. The LTD is chain drive and has solid engine mounts.
The GPz engine is also rubber mounted, plus it's painted black.

One engine that would swap is the 750E engine. The part number is different because it's painted black and the LTD is silver, but otherwise the engines are identical (as far as I know).

I would agree & wasn't thinking yesterday. The Spectre frame & engine mounting are different, so a shaft drive probably won't work in a chain drive frame. As for the similarities in the crankcases, the part number difference could be as simple as the color. I was thinking that the shaft drive engine might could be converted to chain drive, which is probably a lot of work, but that's not the question here. doh.
