I recently bought the KG000-8 Powersport clutch for my 76 900B LTD. Although multiple sites show this set as correct, the bike has 10 discs, the replacement set has 8, Whats the story? Wrong set? Or lose 2 disc's from stock? Sorry if this seems an obvious question but I have limited experience with these bikes.
Thanks.

What does the clutch manufacturer about using their eight disks to replace the stock ten disks?

Ok. That was strange.

Going by the Clymer Manual, none of the 10 fiber discs that were in the bike were even close to being correct thickness. Being a weekend I had no way to contact the manufacturer to inquire about the 8 new disc's I bought, Three of the steel disc's in the bike were smooth, the rest had tiny dimples. I took out the smooth steel disc's, reused the dimpled disc's and installed the new fiber KG000-8 fiber clutch's, and it road like a new bike.

This bike came to me with quite a few bad modifications, like they were trying to create some kind of street/strip hybrid and the ten disc clutch would not release smoothly. I'll probably never know what the 10 clutch disc's came out of, but their destined for the garbage can.

WTF? The 77 1000 I bought had the same problem as my 900. Clutch wouldn't release correctly.
I pulled the discs out and found 9 fiber disc's all under size from what the manual specifies.
Was that a thing year's ago? Putting in more, thinner disc's than stock]?
Idk..

In answer to the question regarding extra clutch disc's.
A common upgrade is to run a set of 9 ( one extra ) thinner friction discs , with a extra steel plate. This gives the clutch more surface area which spreads the
load of power over a greater surface area. I run such a clutch in my turbocharged bike and the clutch has given me great service for a very long time. My
clutch kit was made by Bill Hahn through one of his companies called Action 4
Another great upgrade is the needle pusher bearing . available from APE . They may also carry the 9 plate clutch

Thanks for the info Fighter. It seems the former owner of this bike did not have as much success with their 9 disc clutch and needle bearing pusher as you have. Therefore I have some parts to buy and work to do..

Those pictures tell quite a story.
Lots of abuse, and the mechanic must of been a shoe maker as he cobbled on that poor bike.
The clutch basket is badly worn , as is the pressure plate. Holes wobbled out , broken springs ,
Pure piss poor work from assembly thru abuse in use.
Man deserves to be shot. Not a parts issue other than the broken spring which should have been caught by checking
as soon as clutch started to give him problems

I mentioned in another thread when I got the bike the tweeker I got it from said prior to him getting it it had been sitting for about 15 years . He took it out for one ride, with a rusty chain, which broke (at about 100 mph, according to him) which caused the left side cover, sprocket cover and clutch push rod to break and the bike to go down. Bent handle the bars, dented the tank right side and road rashed the bike (and him). Him and his GF were really a pair. She had just gotten out of the hospital from trying to commit suicide by running her 97 Dodge Cummins into a power pole. Since I drive one, I bought it to.

I replaced all the broken left side parts but in my eagerness to ride it I didn't look deeply into the clutch itself. I ordered all the replacement parts from APE except the clutch basket. Anyone have one for sale?
