Kz650 head vs kz750ltd vs gpz750
02 Mar 2018 15:58
Just picked up this gpz head for a build I noticed that it is not tapped or even has a place to tap in a cam chain roller anyone ever attempted to do so I'm planning on putting this on a kz650 engine

You have to do a cam idler mod like Z1000J/GPZ1100UT head on KZ900/1000 engine cylinder with APE cam idler.

You have to measurement the cylinder bore spacings before, they must be equal to the 650 head/bore.
Edit: forgot the carb spacings

Why not use the stock 650 idler? The casting has provision for the holes, they're just not drilled and tapped ( I know the KZ750 head does, and I'm almost certain the GPz750 does).. I'm fairly sure a 650 cam cover will work, you just fill the air passages in the head with some sort of epoxy. If you plan on using 750 cams you must swap the cam sprockets.. 83-85 GPz750 cams don't have a tach drive gear.

Gpz don't have the top idler mounts cast into it like a 750 or 650 head here is a pic of my gpz head and a 750 head for comparison
