I've been thinking about cutting my megaphone mufflers off of my 750 twin and riding it straight pipe for a little while. Aside from decibel levels, what exactly does this do to my bike (motor, carbs etc)?

The miracles of medicine can re-attach it if it is found quick and packed in ice....

As for the exhaust it will reduce you future vocabulary to "What?" .

Huh?
I was thinking of doing similar, but getting a second set of headers to play with, then hooking some straight pipes from the union/collector area out the back.
if you do hack on a set make sure you go to an exhaust shop and get some that run out the back or invest in earplug stocks.

Bikes a real susceptible to exhaust and intake changes. You could lean out your air fuel mixture and cause damage or hurt performance. The noise would be real real anti-social. I'm not a fan of hacking at pipes.

Yes of course you could rejet and be fine

I understand these set up is rather difficult to tune (jet) though. Try it out if you don't mind getting yourself another pipe or are planning on getting an after market pipe later anyway.
