Hi guys -
On all modern KZ's the factory ran their air-injection system through the reeds into the valve covers to get them through the 'lean' years of tuning.
Anytime a component of this system messes up, it's simple to simply plug the air flow into the top of the valve covers, and go forward.
On my Canadian-spec 1982 GPz, and the other Canadian bikes, the valve covers are nice and clean, and are emission hardware free.
So if I pull off the USA valve cover on my 1982 GPz750, and replace it with the Canadian one, is it a simple swap, or are there passages to thread/plug?

Id tap and plug the passages before installing the valve cover, less chance of a leak causing problems later.

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

No plugged passages on this one...

I just pulled out my Canadian Valve Cover - 14025-1433, and it has protrusions that cover up the holes perfectly. Nice.

Yes, UK and Euro bikes don't have the exhaust recirculation system, the cam cover extends over them.
??? If a head has these exhuast ports, does it mean it was originally a US bike?

Nope - I'm beginning to think all the head castings start out the same.
Take a valve cover off a '89 z 550GT, which shares the same 553cc engine as a KZ550, or a 550 Zephyr, and it has no emissions hardware, but the passages are available in the head to inject air on a US model.

I'd say putting on a valve cover like this would be no different that plugging hoses on a US model valve cover set up... I 've never heard of many issues from doing so, so I can't believe there are any ports etc that need plugged or whatever. I've replaced 1979 smog covers with 1978 non smog cover on a 650 4 times without any adverse effect.....
