Wet clutch to dry clutch
01 Oct 2014 06:32
Ive seen in pictures of people doing this, i have an american KZ 550 engine being slowly rebuilt with a turbo mounted , any clue on clutch conversion kits that may fit either the clutch shaft or the basket itself

To be honest if the stock clutch in good repair is still way overkill in your bike. The 550's 650/750's have a very stout drivetrain and clutch. OEM parts and maybe a set of stiff clutch springs is all you will ever need.
I have seen a few bikes with windowed clutch covers, look pretty cool but I don't know if they are custom made or aftermarket jobs...

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

I don't see any reasonable way to keep oil away from the clutch. Ed

Its a matter of saving weight all round, im trying to minimize fluids for horse power at the crank and lowering the center of gravity by building a tank for oil benith the engine, also converting to a dry sup system allows me to tailor the motor for extra cooling like installing oil jets that spray upward to the piston. My biggist issue is keeping it period correct using parts from no later than 1981

He also has an oil pressure gauge on his KZ900. Never trust a person running an oil pressure gauge on a Z1 or early KZ engine.

It sounds like you are after something like this? It's from a Yamaha single, but the concept is obviously the same.
Besides needing to keep the oil from the clutch basket, you also need a way to spin the clutch basket that doesn't rely on the outer ring gear. Good luck with your dry sump/clutch project. do post up some pictures as you make progress. Paul
