cost/value ratio for 650 head

I did all the tricks for seized plug removal on my parts bike, but I still got stroked. One plug came out with the last 3-4 threads packed with aluminum and another broke in the middle leaving half of the threaded body. I can see the electrode prong sitting down inside, were it never moved. So....... is it economicly feasible to have the plug holes drilled out in a machine shop and let them install thread inserts. Or strip the head down, toss it, and hunt for another on fleabay? This bike only had 14,000 km (aprox.10,000 miles) on it, but has been sitting outside for years. All I've had time to do so far was remove the valve cover and take out the cams. Everything inside so far looks pristine, no rust or oil starvation damage.

Weigh the cost of both. You can find a head on the bay fairly cheep.

If it was me I'd get the broken plug out and helicoil the plug holes, even though you can get another head off eBay for $30 including shipping. But I'm stubborn and refuse to give up :D :D

You're on buddy. But I'll feel better about this if we make a trade. I have a chrome luggage rack deal that came with my bike. I've never used it because I think that it uglies up the lines of the bike. I'll try to dig up a pic of it. I'll swap it for the head. If you're not interested, I'm still in for that head. And I'd thank you kindly for it too! I have a pretty busy schedule right now, so no reply does not infer no interest. I'll catch up with you soon.

Let's see if I shrunk these down enough.

This thing may not be quite as bad as I make it out, as it sits a few inches above the tail piece. However, it's poison to me because I hate that luggage carrier look.

Sounds like you got a deal. Any 650 head you find that has never been rebuilt will need to be.

Parts will be easy to find as everything but the valves are Z1 stuff.
