Clutch springs recommended torque?
05 Jul 2012 12:37
While I was installing a barnett clutch and springs in my 1977 KZ1000 yesterday I broke the clutch basket. The bolt never felt like it was tight. You can clearly see the threads are not striped. If anybody has this part I need a new one and also when installing Barnett springs what do you torque the bolts to? I don't wanna do this twice.

the torque is very light on spring bolts, they will never feel tight because they never bottem out on anything. most modern day bikes are around 7 lbs. 2 weeks ago I watched a buddy break a spring bolt with a torque wrench set at 10 lbs. 2 more snapped as we were taking then out to pull the basket to extract the first broken bolt. these are definatly bolts that have to be done by spec. the hour and a half job ended up taking 12 hours :pinch: I cant count the buddies that I have known that have broke spring bolts or messed up baskets on both hands
