Ok, i was looking on that bikez site you gave me and it says that there was no 1977 kz900's made? Someone on here ran the numbers that i have and said it was a 77. The neck number is 514979 and the cc on the engine is 903cc. Where do you guys get the info on the numbers from?
Watch it folks,i have sticky fingers when it comes to a nice looking set of handle bars:)

I don't know where the #'s are from, but there were 77 KZ900's.... I had one a couple years back, and I have a bare frame for one in storage.

I posted the link to zedder when I stated it was a 77 KZ900 in your other thread (one of them anyway).

I looked at bikez site, interesting site but I don't think that information is complete. I noted a lot of Kawasaki bikes showing a "Z" model designation so I think that must be an English or Australian site, it doesn't have much on KZ's, I saw only 3 listed. In England and Australia the model designation was Z900, (pronounced "zed"900). There are some differences between models sold in the US and elsewhere in what was offered in what year.

Yep. I thought about putting 2 cents in on the "77 KZ900" line as well, then remembered that Kaw did some funny things with model/year crossovers.

It's hard enough to trust the factory (buykaw.com)designations, much less "aftermarket" sites...

A 1977 KZ900 is just a late 1976 titled as a 1977 model year. I don't think Kawasaki intended 1977 KZ900s to exist. So in other words if you have trouble finding parts listings ect, for a 1977, just use 1976 model year instead. They were the exact same all the way to the color of the bodywork.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

We also have our very own 900 expert, Jeff at Z1 Enterprises :)

History of the Kawasaki 900

Since the 77 KZ900 has a different model number (KZ900 A5) than a 76 KZ900 (KZ900 A4), it seems to me that Kawasaki intended them to be 77 models. But I'm not a Kawasaki 900 expert :)

KZ900 Police Special - The 1977 KZ900 motorcycle, upgraded for use as a police motorcycle

Source: Wikipedia

According to Zedder there were 5,237 1977 KZ900 A5's produced.
31,359 1976 KZ900 A4's produced in Japan.
10,340 1976 KZ900 A4's produced in the USA.
5,503 1976 KZ900 B1 LTD's produced.

Plus or minus one or two due to my math is possible :)

I'm a little puzzled about that, buykawasaki.com lists 1976 KZ900A4 (the standard), KZ900B1 (the LTD) and a KZ900 Police, but for the 77 model year they only list the 1977 KZ900A5, and not the LTD or Police Models. During my Google search I ran across references to a 77 KZ900 Police but nothing for a 77 KZ900B2 LTD.

There's a decent - if a bit spotty - pictorial history of the Z - KZ Police bikes at:
