In a co-workers '78 KZ1000. He assures me that it's air cooled and ther isn't anyway water is getting into the oil. Can anyone verify that the '78 KZ 1000 is indeed air cooled? If it is, can someone tell me how the oil is getting milky white?

He has already changed the oil twice and both times it has turned white. Can excess gas do the same thing to the oil?

It's air cooled , I don't know about the oil, unless someone is messing with his engine and he doesn't know it.

There's probably several hundred people ready to dive in to the air-cooled aspect, so I'll pass on that one....B)

My best guess on where the DiHydrogen Monoxide showing up in your friend's ex-prehistoric biomass is likely to be caused by either using something just this side of a firehose to wash the bike down and/or riding in torrential, cat, dog, hampster and the odd Gris-ley bear downpours.

Short of a missing oil-filler plug, the usual suspect here would be the oil breather, and the entry point depends on how your pal's airbox/air cleaner(s) (pods) are set up...;)

Condensation is what's causing the oil to turn milky.
My guess is he takes short rides and the oil never gets to operating temp and never boils off the condensation.

The solution is to take longer rides or to allow the motor to idle a lot longer to get it to operating temp.
Oil temp needs to get to at least 200 degrees F.

I agree with the condensation theory.
Inadequate ventilation (pluged crankcase breather) will cause condensation buildup and will result in contamination of the oil.

That too, come to think of it. Before I got chased out of Florida on unrelated charges, I'd see condensation corruption every so often during wet spells...

Not the State of Florida, per se, just a certain Pinellas County judge...

Quite a story... B)
