Engine temps for ?

Hey there, I just got my KZ810 big bore up and running, and I am trying to find out what is the acceptable running temp for one these motors.

I am using a Trail Tech Vapor, with the sensor mounted under spark plug 4. I also had another temp sensor mounted under a head bolt, but had the same results.

I've been reading the plugs, and myself and several friends in the know have all agreed they look good, if maybe a tad bit rich.

The discrepancy between the temp sensor and two different IR Temp guns, has been anywhere between 10-30 degrees f. With the Vapor always being higher. I have reset it per instructions by Trail Tech.

I have a gpz 750 oil pan and plan to add an oil cooler, any recommendations on an oil cooler and lines?

I think the maximum safe temperature is about 25 degrees under whatever a harley reads....

I believe the max temp for mineral based oil is around 240, and synthetic is 260 ish.

212 F (100 C)Is exactly the boiling point for water which is the ideal temp for the engine to achieve and run at. Keep it as cool as possible, but the oil should get to at least over 200 in order to eliminate any moisture in the oil/engine.

What kind of temps are you seeing? 300-400 or so?

This is different than the head temp, though.

As I read it, these are both surface temp readings, which as I understand it, would be higher than the oil temps since this is where the heat dissipates from. How do these temps correlate with oil temps? I haven't seen anyone quote cylinder head temp ranges yet.

I could be wrong. Just trying to get him the answers he's looking for.

I don't know about an 810, but OMR has posted pretty thorough temp readings for his 1000.

I am seeing head temps around the 350-375 f, I don't have an oil temp gauge. I am running 24mm Mikuni's, and B7ES plugs, timing is set dead on. These temps are at freeway speeds, 70 mph.

As I said it's the 810 big bore with the higher compression with the 650 head and 750 cams. Head has new valves and has been setup properly.

Not sure what else to do other than add the planned oil cooler, I have a gpz 750 oil pan, I just need to get the oil lines and the cooler. At that time I want to add an oil temp gauge. Will wrapping my pipes help with the heat? I have read a lot of differing opinions on that subject.

Only reference I can give is flat head briggs on racing karts. Aircooled the same as our bikes. Most liked around 375 to 390. I always preferred around 400 but you had to be on your game or you could wound the motor but you made more power at 400. Don't know if this is the answer your after or if it's even relevant to a bike motor.
