Pilot Jet question - '77 kz650
09 Nov 2011 02:04
Quick question. Carbs are apart, and two of the four pilot jets are "snub nosed", whereas the other two are tapered and come to a point. Is this a problem as far starting, idling, etc? My guess is yes, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Which are the correct and/or better jets to use?
Thanks, all.
Thanks, all.

Well yes all 4 jets should be the same. I believe this is the Kawasaki part # 92064-1018 PILOT JET,#A15 , I can't find an Image of it to post. How about pictures of yours?
Try calling, or emailing Z1enterprises. They will help you with the jets.

A carb parts diagram might be available at Babbits.
This page 59 from Sudco Tuning Manual 4th Edition shows Mikuni's VM22/210 as being applicable to most Mikuni carbs.
Good Fortune!

Sorry for the delayed reply, midnight shifts are a PITA.
I misspoke, I'm having problems with the pilot jet screw, or pilot screw. Two of them are either flat-nosed by design, or the tips broke off. Managed to score some replacement pilot screws from a neighbor's set of 750 carbs.
The real problem, as it turns out, is more than the screws. Somehow, the tiny opening where the pilot screw enters the carb chamber has turned into a big hole on the #2 carb. No matter what type of screw is there, a flood of gas is pouring into the cylinder. Wonder if the neighbor's 750 carbs might work for our 650? Time to do a search.
1. Different pilot screws. O-ring not present in pic, but is accounted for.
2. A blurry pic, but you get the idea. Big, giant hole in carb body, much larger than supposed to be.
