1975 Z1B, Review of Replica 4 in 4 exhaust pipes
22 Jun 2011 17:11 - 22 Jun 2011 22:57
2 of the factory pipes ( factory but 76 pipes) got stained by battery acid ( my AGM battery died during a long trip and the only replacement availabe was a 'regular" battery with a vent) so i decided to buy a set of new pipes from Jeff ( Z Enterprises)
They arrived in a big box and very well packed, buble wrap, peanuts, and each pipes covered in foam and cling wrap.
I carefully inspected each pipes and could not find any defect, scratch or blemish.
The quality of the chrome and especially the welded seams are MUCH BETTER than the Kawasaki that i had on my bikes.
On the Kawasaki the seams were not even but more like the teeths of a saw blade, the replica are very smooth and even.
They fit perfect with no "adjustment" needed.
The only thing "wrong" but very minor was the chromed Allen screw used for the baffles, replacing them with regular 6mm bolts took only a couple of minutes.
All in all a GREAT product with ( as always ) a great customer service from Jeff
I should add that the exhaust gasket That I also ordered were quite diffrent from the copper ones that I'm used to, they were aluminum, much thicker and with an abesto type material on both sides.

+1 Thanks Luc! I'm thinking about the 4 into 4 pipes, "just to be different."

Also on my 'To Buy' list from Z1Enterprises, amongst many many other items

BTW, those 'wafer' gaskets are Yamaha gaskets and they work rather well as replacements...the only drawback being you can't anneal and re-use them.

I had a new 73 Z1 and if I could give you a piece of advise Id take the baffles out & remove the packing around it. This is what caused the original ones to rot out. They held moisture after short rides. Also check that the drain hole is clear once a week. The pipes will last a lot longer that way and at the price you definetly want them to. My 2 pennys, take it or leave it.

And boy does removing those baffles & packing ever sound good ! Better than most 4-1's for my .02
