07 May 2006 16:16
is there a difference in between 750 and 650 cams? will 750 cams in a 650 give any better performance at all or are they the same? sorry if this has been asked. i could not find it anywhere. i'm notoriouslly cheap.
someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

I found this a while back and I think it will clear up your question on what the cam specs would be and what would swap. As noted before the 750's cams DO NOT have a cam gear casted into them

I also submitted a copy in the file base under non specific model cam specs. The 1 in the file base is easier to read.

Well. that is correct, they don't have a speedo drive gear on the cams, but as far as the tach drive gear, the 83-85 GPz750 cams don't have a tach gear cast on them, but the KZ750 exhaust cams do. I just looked at one to verify this.
Any KZ750 (or early GPz750) with a mechanical tach has the tach drive gear on the cam.

Does there need to be any modifying to the intake or exhuast valves for use with the 750 cams in the 650 or is it a DIRECT drop in?

To use the KZ750 cams all you need to do it bolt on the KZ650 cam spockets, and of course the usual stuff like adjust the valve lash and make sure you have the cams lined up (in time).
Don't expect a large power increase though, probably 2-3 hp on an otherwise stock motor.

Should be a drop in.Just make sure your valve springs are good and within specs for the larger cams.If not you might hear that dreaded noise when the valve hits the piston and tries to self distruct when you float the valves at high rpm with the oem stock 650 springs.
