CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE BOLTS??
23 Jul 2009 08:57
Hey guys I am having a bit of a problem with my clutch can anyone tell me how tight the pressure plate bolts should be because i already snapped one (have to drill it out!!!) and I'm not trying to dothat again. This all started because I would hold in the clutch and it wouldnt return, I had just put the engine back together so i thought maybe I didnt tighten the bolts all the way because I tried adjusting it as per the manual and that wasnt working so I tried this as my next option thanks guys

If you have the same 10mm head bolts that are on my KZ550, they are not tightened much. The torque spec on mine is 78 inch/pounds, which is like 6.5 foot/pounds.

Uncertain which manual is involved, but some of the manuals are incorrect or confusing regarding procedure for the clutch pushrod adjustment.
Earlier design = turn adjustment screw clockwise until lightly seated, then turn it 1/2 turn counter-clockwise, then secure its position with lock nut.
Later design = turn adjustment screw counter-clockwise until lightly seated, then turn it 1/2 turn clockwise, then secure its position with lock nut.
Good Luck!

If its not releasing your clutch basket could be notched. By not returning I assume you mean that the plates aren't tightening back up after you release the lever. Other wise your clutch push rod may be notched and could be catching. Just start with the easy things and check for something binding.
