I always thought the very early 900's came with the one piece head gaskets, and the later models went to the two piece head gasket with the center o-ring!!!!

Yes! one piece head gasket and no cam tunnel 'O' ring on the early 900's.

With my modern tires, S&W shocks, proper fork springs and oil, I have no trouble on my KZ1000 keeping up or ahead of my buddies on their HDs, Indians and Triumph bikes through the Rockies.
