Money has been exchanged, title received and bike's in the back of my buddies truck. It's 1/2 way across the country and I haven't seen it in person yet and it's all a mystery at this point. Dead battery, stale gas, no start so for all I know it could be a big POS, but for the price I thought it worth the risk. Worse case scenario I'm it all the money to get it right, or it just needs the usual "Old, been sitting a while bike" carb rebuild, tires, battery, brakes scenario. Hey, if you're going to roll the dice, roll large or go home. Right? It's going to a shop on Tuesday for evaluation.
If all turns out well I gonna do all the above plus new chain, wheel bearing repack and misc, ride it for a few weeks to see what shakes out and then ride it the 1800 miles back home.

The bike looks like an interesting project.
We stay tuned for more details.
How much was the catch price, if i may ask?

edit;
The head light holders look like interesting for my project bike.
Can you take a closer picture of the holders?

Michael

Free. How can you go wrong? I tried to buy a "been sitting 20+ years street drag/parts bike KZ 1000 with air shift, a 1075 kit and racing wheels for $550 and was disappointed when the seller failed to produce the title. Free is good! lol

Iowa and the seller was kind of a douche. Don't tell me you had one stolen from there, because that would s***.

And thus it's begun. I had the bike dropped off at a shop ten days before I got here (illinios) the mechanic did a whopping nothing. Spending my vacation repairing the bike. Which is actually fine. I'm not a lay on the beach kind of man.

New tires.
repack wheel bearings.
Replace all brake pads.
All new cables.
new chain
new battery.
new spark plugs
Compression test 130 lbs across all, not fantastic but it will do.
Clean tank
paint all the body panels and tank black because I couldn't stand the goofy paint job.
rear brake mc rebuild

It hit right off on a whiff of either. Unfortunately the Vance and Hines side header does not clear the rear brake pedal or kick starter so it's going to have to go (if I only had my welder here hehehe)

Put a few hundred miles on it, so far. Running good, clutch is a bit stiff and grabby but getting better. Still have to paint the tail section. I may have found a Kerker megaphone, still looking for a larger tank.

I never did find a suitable rear brake pedal so I got the torch out and unwound the pretzel the previous owner made of the old one trying to get it to clear the right side exhaust header.
